Summer is Around The Corner

ree

There is less than a month left in school. Summer is quickly approaching. Most summer trips have been planned. Maybe you are a teacher going to the CCLE conference at Concordia University in Wisconsin, a high schooler going to the Higher Things conference at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, or your family is planning a staycation. If plans have not been made, then they will soon be. Wherever your plans take you during the summer, it is vital that your child's mind continues to stay engaged with good things. Yes, school is out, but that does not mean that we stop learning. Staying up late night after night, having screen time all day, sitting around and not being physically active, though these things are tempting, there are better uses of our time. Summer is to be a time of growth as well as the school year.

Children should still hear the Word of God daily and memorize it. Let your child find a book or two that they would enjoy reading during the summer. Encourage your child to have a regular fitness routine. Have your child contemplate what is good, true and beautiful. All these things will keep your child sharp, and when school does start in the fall, it will not be a difficult transition. Ephesians 5:15-16 states, "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil." I pray that you have a blessed summer. May the Lord give us wisdom as we spend time with our children as they make the most of their summer days.

In Christ,
